endorse: makeartfestival slideshow

sorrowful we had to accept that we could not make it to the makeart festival, but we could still do our web 2.0 job and asked some people on flickr to join the makeart07 flickr group. it looks like there were not too many photographers at the festival who uploaded their stuff to flickr – but the ones who did are great. please enjoy some great pictures from portier, thanks to manuel braun (www.decept.org) and flickr user yesyesnono for sharing their photos!

harddisko @deaf07

“Harddisko” is an installation piece dealing with raw computer sounds. Rhythmic noises are evolving from sixteen harddrives, which are orchestrated through simple power circuits. By cutting the harddisk’s power in varying sequences and amplifying the peculiar sound characteristics of each drive, an unpredictable acoustic and visual interplay is taking place.

pictobrowser

since we upgraded to wordpress 2.1, we now have the possibility to implement the pictobrowser into tagr.tv. it’s easy and works great, find it here: http://www.db798.com/work/

simply enter the flickr account you want to use (no password req.) and select the pictures that you want to show in the slideshow. to do so, you can choose to select via tags, groups or sliedshows. in this example i included all the pictures from the flickr group “CTM Festival”.

asever, nothing is perfect: one problem is, that this is a free service, which doesn’t run on our server but rather on the db798.com server, which will hopefully run as long as flickr works…
the other problem is, that wordpress still has issues to implement it if you place it in the middle of a text. to avoid problems, i recommend to place the slide show at the end of the post.

Christoph Buchel at Coppermill Gallery, London

christoph buchel’s “Silply Botiful” is a really nice exhibition i found by chance last sunday off bricklane in london.

you enter a hotel and have to sign that you are able to take care of yourself and that you can’t sew the organizers if you hurt your self – very simpatico. so after signing this paper at the reception you enter the first floor of the hotel, which is packed with bed and goods of everyday life. in order to see the all of the rooms you have to crawl throgh little whloes in the walls and the floor, walk through mountains of used fridges and explore containers that look like they are still heavily in use . so far the user impressions, you can find the press release text for the exhibition here, and an online walktrough here.

Jury statement
In 2006 the Share Festival launched a world wide call for proposals for artists working in the field of digital art and culture. This is the third edition of the Festival and the first time the Share Festival included a prize competition.

From over 200 submitted works, an international jury shortlisted six works that were exhibited at the festival, from which one prize winner is selected. The entries came from all over the world and included diverse art forms addressing a wide range of artistic, social and cultural issues. Many of the entries were interdisciplinary in character, reflecting the diversity of creative approaches. Like with many other festivals, there is one prize only that is not tied to a specific technology or genre but rather to their combination and to the expression of ideas.
The quality of the entries were high and the majority were from young emerging artists.

This confirms the need for platforms where artists can present and reflect on their work and that of their colleagues. In this way, the jury considers the prize to be a stimulus for new production and to create visibillity for digital art practice (still rather peripheral to the contemporary art world).

The theme of the Share Festival 2007 is Digital Affinity/Communities Now. Much consideration is given to processes and protocols that regulate communities through creative, reflexive, technological and innovative exchanges:

Communities then are not just new forms of aggregation, but a way of being and living, a collective and humanitarian project, a culture that links one billion and 80 million people today. The bonds between these people are not just geographical or family based, but inspired by cultural, ideological and political affinity. (Share 2007)
